Oleksandr Povazhnyi

Doctor of Economics, Professor, Honoured Education Worker of Ukraine

He was born on the 3d of February 1973 in Donetsk. He began his academic career in 1995 as a lecturer, then worked as Deputy Dean, Head of the Department, Prorector, and in 2007-2014 - Rector of the Donetsk State University of Management.

He headed the Expert Council of the Supreme Certifying Commission on administration of government, chaired the Education Commission of the Donetsk Regional Council, and was Deputy Chairman of the Council of Rectors of Donetsk Region.

Under his leadership, 23 doctoral and 35 candidate dissertations  were defended, 235 research papers were published, including 10 monographs, 55 textbooks, scientific-methodological and learning guides.

The scientific and practical recommendations set out in his scientific papers were used in the development of the "Programmes of Scientific and Technical Development of Donetsk Region for the period up to 2020", in the amendments made by the State Commission on Securities and Stock Market to the regulatory acts on the stock market and corporate governance, and in the organisation of the management system of large industrial enterprises.

In 2004, he was awarded the President of Ukraine Prize for Young Scientists for his research paper "Establishment and Development of Effective Corporate Governance". He was awarded the Order of Merit Third Class.
